Last week brought encouraging news: the Indiana Senate announced it will not hold the special session to redraw Indiana’s congressional maps ahead of schedule. While political battles are never won by one group alone, this moment shows clearly how organizing, clear message-making, and local pressure can move the needle.
Here in Howard County, we played a part — and you made it happen. Over 100 emails from county residents were sent to their representatives. More than 200 people added their names to our petition demanding no mid-cycle redistricting from our local State Representatives.
These numbers may feel small in the grand scale of things, but they signal something bigger: that when a community pays attention and speaks together, it matters.
We had the financial resources to get access to a tool that made it easy for neighbors to do two things in one place:
-
Send a clear email to legislators in less than a minute.
-
Sign a petition showing thousands of voices ready to be heard.
That dual action — quick, visible, and collective — helped send the message that Howard County Democratic are organized and we demand accountability.
We want to thank every person who took time. Whether you reached out, shared the message, or simply signed the petition — you supported real civic power. You reminded our legislators that local voices aren’t invisible.
This isn’t the end of the story. We’ll stay vigilant. We’ll keep making sure our leaders know Howard County will show up, will speak up, and will hold them accountable.
Because local organizing is how change begins. It’s not flashy. It doesn’t always make headlines. But when people join together, tools are used, and persistent pressure is placed — it adds up.
Thank you for believing in that. Thank you for acting. Let’s keep going.
