What it is, what you'll do, and why it matters
What is a PC?
A Precinct Committee Member (PC) is the grassroots foundation of the Democratic Party. Each PC represents a specific precinct — the smallest unit of our local government — and serves as the official link between their neighbors and the party.
Term & appointment
PCs serve a 4-year term. Seats can be filled by:
- Winning election in a primary
- Appointment by the party (for vacant seats)
ⓘ Appointed PCs may serve in a precinct they do not live in.
Official powers & responsibilities
Vote on party business
Cast votes at official party meetings on resolutions, officers, and party direction
Fill ballot vacancies
Vote (PCs only) to fill Democratic candidate ballot vacancies via caucus
Represent your precinct
Be the official Democratic voice for your neighborhood within the party structure
Appoint PC vice chairs
Designate a precinct vice chair to support your work
What we'll ask you to do
Attend
Come to monthly party meetings and vote on party business
Connect
Reach out to Democrats in your precinct — neighbors, friends, family
Organize
Support voter contact during elections — doors, phones, and/or texts
Recruit
Help identify and encourage Democrats in your precinct to get involved
