Dara Johnson Elected Howard County Democratic Party Chairperson Makes History as the First African American to Hold Top Spot

Currently the Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships at Indiana University Kokomo, Dara Johnson is a resident of Kokomo where she was born & raised. She is the daughter of Daro and Celestine Johnson and the proud mom of her son Kingston. She studied Health Administration at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis where she earned her Bachelor of Science in 2007 and then went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Human Resource Development at Indiana State University in 2012.

Dara is very active in her community. She currently serves, as Chairperson of the Howard County Democratic Party, Secretary of the City of Kokomo Human Rights Commission, is an appointed member Martin Luther King Jr Commission, and member of Indiana Black Expo, she also is currently the assistant coach for Kokomo 6th Grade Girls Middle School Basketball. Dara also volunteers for numerous other organizations within the community.

Dara has always been very dedicated and hardworking when trying to achieve her goals. She does not let any obstacles get in her way. She is a woman of faith, a class act, an eloquent speaker, and a lady with a purpose. Dara’s future is bright as long as she keeps her strong faith and remembers what is most important in life: God, family, and enjoying the journey.
